"I realised God’s faithfulness to me never ceased'

I gave my life to Christ on the 17th October 2021, for the second and final time. I grew up a church kid, with my parents, first in Nigeria and then in the UK as I moved here age 9 with my mother and sister. Nothing changed, church was still routine on Sunday’s as usual. Until one day my mother got invited to the wedding of a young couple at Potter’s House South London in 2011. She was lost for words and marvelled at the type of church it was. Young, energising and engaging. Not long after she sent my sister and I here to fellowship and call this our new spiritual home. This was when I first gave my life to Christ, aged 12. When I got saved as a teenager, I was radical. My friends heard about Jesus and repentance from me morning, noon and night. As I sought to get closer to God, I joined ministries, went on impact teams and was in church during any and every event. My mother knew if I wasn’t at school, I was at church.

This was the case for about one and a half years, until my sister sadly had to depart back to Nigeria due to visa issues. My mother subsequently pulled me out of church aged 13/14 to go back to her church and I ended up backsliding. Partying, drinking but above all, women took me off the path of righteousness. Going through the remainder of secondary school, college and university, I couldn’t be less concerned about the things of Christ. But I later learned I had suppressed my love for God, deep down, my genuine encounter with Jesus had remained and I realised God’s faithfulness to me never ceased. Throughout trial and tribulation, education problems, immigration uncertainty and even homelessness at one point, God kept me through it all. I reached a point in my life in 2021 where I decided to stop being selfish, self-centred and acting like my own God and go back to the source. That was the 17th October 2021 and I haven’t looked back since.

When God brought me back to the Potter’s House in October, we were still coming out of lockdown. I quickly joined the ministry that was dedicated to my age group called ‘Refine’. In this group, I was able to re-kindle relationships with old friends, guys and girls. I was given the opportunity to give my testimony at our second ever service. Since then, God has taken the group from strength to strength, done amazing works in our lives as individuals and as a group and I can’t wait to see what is in store for us next.

God has helped me realise that my life is bigger than just me; there are other lives attached to me and that there is a calling upon me. Something I have battled with even while not knowing God. Being in church has provided me with the right relationships, mentoring and guidance to help mould me as a young Christian. It’s had its fair share of ups and downs, but no smooth sea ever made a skilled sailor, and all things work for our betterment.
